Peppermint has a long history and has been used in traditional medicine for centuries. For our Compass Mints, we only use pure peppermint oil, which has a number of benefits — more in this blog.

A look back at peppermint

In the 18th century, peppermint was commonly grown in English gardens and quickly became a staple of many medicines. Peppermint oil was first distilled from fresh plants and marketed as a digestive aid in the 1820s. That was also when peppermint oil was used for chewing gum for the first time!

Health Benefits

Peppermint has a lot of benefits! It is a natural source of vitamins A, C and E. In addition to freshening your breath, peppermint oil has many other positive effects, such as helping with gastrointestinal complaints, bile problems and headaches. It can also have an antimicrobial, antiviral, nerve-calming and sleep-inducing effect.

Production of peppermint oil

Peppermint oil is extracted from the leaves and flowers of the plant by steam distillation or cold pressing. Peppermint essential oil can then be used in a variety of ways.

Compass Mints contain 100% natural essential oils in all products. Due to the high proportion of menthol in our essential peppermint oil, fresh breath lasts much longer than other artificially produced breath fresheners.

Pay attention to that next time you are enjoying Compass mints! 🙂
